接发球可以落点和弧线为主，也可以旋转和速度为主。有些人喜欢把球回到对方不易发力的地方，而非摩擦旋转；也有些人喜欢加转加快，让对方打不出高质量的回击。总之是要求手段丰富，让对方难以适应；如果老用一种方式接发球，对方很容易适应。正手侧身接发球是目前应用比较多，也比较成熟了；这里谈谈正手侧身接发球，主要包括搓、撇和拉。
移动步法包括离台远往前冲逼短球，向前冲时侧身扭腰接发球，也可右脚上前一步；接发时主动积极移动步法，可以给对方心理压力。身体侧向球台一边；甚至侧到台侧。接发球时肘关节伸进台内，肘关节位置放得很低，以便很好控制。
下旋者，手腕外展和伸，腕关节高于肘关节；触球左侧（拍头略朝上），手腕内收和稍屈，前臂外旋，从右后向左前发力搓摆至正短，或从后向右前发力搓摆至反短。也可以发力大一点，触球时间长一点，劈、切、剁长。
上旋者，手腕内收和伸，腕关节高于肘关节；触球右侧（拍头朝上），手腕外展和稍屈，前臂内旋，从后向右前发力撇打至对方反手位。
正手侧身抢拉目前要比较凶，一般来说，尽量要拉下降期前冲弧圈球，力求取得有威胁的主动；在被动步法不到位时可以拉下降期加转弧圈球过渡，这一板多注意落点；出现机会球，才有可能拉高点期上升后期前冲弧圈球，一板结束。
