株高30-45cm，全株光滑，被白粉，多分枝，纤细，叶对生，披针形。花瓣5枚，纯白色或粉红色，倒卵形。花径6mm，花梗细长，为疏散开展的圆锥状聚伞花序。蒴果圆形，果熟期7-9月。
分布与习性:
原产小亚细亚及高加索一带，欧洲、亚洲和北非的一些国家均有栽培。为一二年生草本植物。耐寒，忌炎热多雨。宜在向阳环境和疏松肥沃、排水良好的微碱性砂壤土生长。花期6-8月。
繁殖与栽培:
以播种法繁殖为主。寒冷地区宜春播，土壤不结冻地区可秋播。发芽最适发芽温度为21-22℃。7-10天幼苗出土。定植后长至8节左右时摘心，侧芽长至5-10cm时抹芽，去弱留强。定植初期勤灌水，花芽开始形成时适当控水。
应用:
霞草枝，叶纤细，分枝极多，小花繁星密布，轻盈飘逸，可用于花坛、花境或花丛。也可作插花，并是制作干花理想花材。
