美国为"阿波罗"号飞船登月作准备而发射的不载人月球探测器系列(见空间探测器)。它的主要任务是进行月面软着陆试验，探测月球并为"阿波罗"号飞船载人登月选择着陆点。从1966年5月到1968年1月共发射7个。其中除2号由于姿态控制发动机失灵坠毁于月面，4号在预定着陆点撞毁外，其余都在月面软着陆成功。"勘测者"号探测器各重1～1.5吨,在月面着陆重量约为280公斤。"勘测者"号的主要仪器和设备有：①电视摄像机；②测定月面承载能力的仪器；③月壤分析设备；④微流星探测器。"勘测者" 1号是美国第一个在月球上实现软着陆的探测器。"勘测者"3和7号除装有电视摄像机外，还装有月面取样用的小挖土机，它按地面指令在月面掘洞取出岩样,供给月壤分析器分析。"勘测者"5～7号都带有α辐射扫描设备,用以测定月壤化学成分。探测结果表明，着陆区附近月壤多为玄武岩状物质。"勘测者"6号在降落月面后第7天，由地面遥控把微调发动机接通8秒钟，使探测器从月面升起约4米,移动约2.5米，后又降落在月面上，对着陆点周围进行了精确的测量。"勘测者" 7号第一次用带有偏振滤光片的摄像机对月面摄像，还用摄像机拍摄了发自 4个地球站的激光信号，使测出的月-地距离精确到±15厘米。
