      在寒冷气候下,由于岩土中水冻结和融化等引起的若干作用的总称。包括:①冻结和融化,蒸发和凝结,升华和凝华,即岩土中水的相变;②岩土中水分、盐分和土颗粒的迁移;③土的冻胀和冻土融沉;④土的冻裂等。
  
  随着季节的交替,冻融作用会反复发生。在此过程中,细小土粒和矿物的微裂隙中的水膜的楔开压力也随着发生变化,从而导致细小土粒和矿物的破坏,使粒径变小,这种作用称为冷生水化风化。它不同于通常所说的寒冻风化。后者是由岩石大裂隙和空隙中冰的楔开压力产生的。在非冻土区,石英的最终风化粒径比长石大。但在冻土区,由于冷生水化风化,石英的最终风化粒径(0.05~ 0.01毫米)比长石的最终风化粒径(0.1~0.05毫米)为小。反复冻融时发生的另一种物理-化学作用,是胶体和粘粒凝聚成微集合体,使土的粒径增大。上述两种不同方向的作用形成一个相同的结果,使遭受反复冻融作用的岩土的粉粒含量大为增加。同时,形成一系列特殊的冷生地貌,即冰缘地貌。
