性质:亦称聚电解质。通常是指一个线型的高分子链上每个单体残基上含有一个或多个可电离的基团的化学聚合物。它的最大特点是能解离而形成聚离子及相反电荷的抗衡离子。它可以是聚酸,如聚丙烯酸,其聚离子即为聚阴离子;也可以是聚碱,如聚乙烯胺,它在接受质子而成为聚阳离子。聚酸的盐称“聚盐”。若高分子化合物带有正负两种电荷的称为“聚两性电解质(polyampholyte)”。多聚电解质可应用在膜器的制造(如超滤器);也可应用于色谱技术,作为物质分离和制备的介质材料。
