| 泥炭藓属 Sphagnum 藓纲泥炭藓科的唯一代表属。原丝体呈片状。植物体柔软，灰白色或灰绿色，高可达数十厘米而呈垫状生长。茎纤细，单生或稀分枝，表皮细胞大形，无色，有时具水孔和螺纹。叶细胞大形，无色透明，具水孔和螺纹加厚，间有狭长形的绿色细胞。孢蒴球形，成熟时紫黑色，盖裂，由柔弱、透明的假蒴柄自茎顶伸出。孢子四分型。在系统上为藓类植物的最原始分类群，约100种，分布于世界各地，尤其在北温带分布较广。 泥炭藓植物习生于高山和林地的沼泽中，或经常有滴水的岩壁下洼地及草丛内。 泥炭藓植物可吸蓄为其自身重量的20～25倍的水分，它在森林地区过分生长往往导致森林的毁灭。第一次世界大战时，因缺乏药棉，加拿大、英国、意大利等国曾利用泥炭藓类植物的吸水特性代替棉花制作敷料。由泥炭藓和其他植物长期沉积后形成的泥炭，其1吨的燃料热量相当于0.5吨的煤。泥炭藓植物迄今仍为苗木、花卉等长途运输的最佳包装材料。 |
