    带电体的一种理想模型。如果在研究的问题中,带电体的形状 、大小可以忽略不计 ,即可将它看作是一个几何点,则这样的带电体就是点电荷。一个实际的带电体能否看作点电荷,不仅和带电体本身有关,还取决于问题的性质和精度的要求。与质点、刚体等概念一样,点电荷是实际带电体的抽象和近似,它是建立具有普遍意义的基本规律的不可或缺的理想模型,又是把复杂多样的实际问题转化或分解为基本问题时必不可少的分析手段。例如,库仑定律、洛伦兹力公式的建立,带电体产生的电场以及带电体之间相互作用的定量研究,试验电荷的引入等等,都离不开点电荷。
