| 水文站 hydrological station 观测及搜集河流、湖泊、水库等水体的水文、气象资料的基层水文机构。水文站观测的水文要素包括水位、流速、流向、波浪、含沙量、水温、冰情、地下水、水质等；气象要素包括降水量、蒸发量、气温、湿度、气压和风等。 按测验项目分为观测水位、流量或兼测其他项目的水文站；只观测水位，或兼测降水量的水位站；只观测降水量的雨量站；只测水质的水质站；只测地下水的地下水井观测站；测量河流泥沙的泥沙站；观测水面蒸发和陆面蒸发的蒸发站。中国把水文站按性质分为基本站和专用站。前者的任务是收集实测资料，提供探索基本水文规律的资料，满足水资源评价、水文计算、水文情报、水文预报和水文科学研究的需要；后者是对基本站的补充。
