反映资金运用的增减变动及其结存情况的账户。在1993年实施新的会计准则和会计制度之前，我国借贷记账法下的会计等式为“资金占用＝资金来源”，这样，反映等式左边的各资金占用具体形态的账户都是资金运用账户，如“固定资产”、“原材料”、“现金”、“银行存款”等账户；各项资金运用的增加数，借记有关资金运用账户；各项资金运用的减少数，贷户有关资金运用账户；各资金运用账户的余额反映各项资金运用的结存数。在增减记账法下，因把全部账户固定划分为资金运用账户和资金来源账户两大类，所以把反映费用支出的账户，如“商品流通费”账户等也视同资金运用账户。1993“资产＝负债＋所有者权益”，这样，反映等式左边各资金占用具体形态的账户都是资产账户。因此，资产账户也可称为资金运用账户。
