    中国第二颗人造地球卫星。是一颗科学探测和技术试验卫星。其主要任务是试验太阳能电池供电系统、主动无源温控系统、长寿命遥测设备及无线电线路在空间环境下长期工作性能，以及测量高空磁场、X射线、宇宙射线、外热流等空间环境参数。卫星重220千克，1971年3月3日用长征1号运载火箭在酒泉卫星发射场发射入轨。原设计寿命为1年，实际上直到1979年6月11日卫星轨道寿命才结束，在空间实际运行8年多。在此期间，卫星上长期工作的遥测系统一直清晰地向地面发回遥测信号，对接收到的遥测数据分析表明，卫星上的电源系统、遥测系统、温控系统性能良好。由于它的遥测信号长期稳定地向地面发射而引起世人注目，为中国以后设计和制造长寿命卫星提供了宝贵的经验。
