性质:以熔融碱金属碳酸盐的混合物组成低共熔体系作电解质,以氧化镍为正极、镍为负极的一种燃料电池。燃料用氢和一氧化碳,氧化剂为空气(氧,含一定量的反应产物二氧化碳)。放电时的电化学反应:正极:1/2O2+CO2+2e—=CO32-负极:CO+H2O=CO2+H2H2+CO32--2e—=H2O+CO2电池反应:O2+CO+H2=H2O+CO2工作温度约为650℃。以150mA/cm2电流密度放电时,工作电压可达0.75V。不使用贵金属催化剂,可间接使用天然气或煤作燃料,通过在电池外或直接在电池内重整生成水煤气供使用,污染较少。其成套燃料电池系统(包括维持温度及利用余热的热交换系统)的能量转化效率可达60%~65%。美国、日本等国已安装成100kW级模型电站试运行。
