电流几乎大小相等、方向相反的环流，屏蔽了壳外磁场，从而解决了附近钢结构感应损耗发热问题，导体所受短路电动力也大为减少(只有无外壳时的20%~30%)，因此是目前采用最广泛的一种。③外壳接饱和电抗器式，外壳的一端各相经一速饱和电抗器连接在一起再接地。饱和电抗器在正常运行时处于非饱和状态，借以增加外壳回路的电抗，减少外壳环流损耗，但附近钢结构感应电能损耗却有所增加，而且增加了电抗器的电能损耗和投资.多数认为是不经济的，因此，未得到广泛推广采用.封闭母线的冷却方式有自然冷却式和强制通风冷却式两种。大容量发电机采用后者。通风冷却一般利用外壳作为通风道。
