新四军对日军的首次战斗。1938年5月12日，新四军第4支队第9团一部，在安徽省巢县(今巢湖市)东南蒋家河口设伏。中午，日军第6师团坂井支队巢县守备队乘船至运漕河(裕溪河)西岸一带抢掠。新四军当即进行狙击，经20多分钟激战，将曾经参与制造南京大屠杀的日军第六师团11旅团所部驻巢县守备队击败，击毙日军20余人，缴获枪20余支，弹药及军用品少许，敌旗1面。残敌乘船溃逃。新四军无一伤亡。此次战斗迫使进攻庐州(今合肥市)的日军坂井支队调回1个大队。关于此次战斗歼敌数字，还有10余人、40余人、60余人等说法。
