位于丰宁县大滩镇，距北京大约260公里，地处高原坝上，又称丰宁坝上。京北草原面积广阔，达350平方公里，平均海拔1487米。夏季草长莺飞，繁花遍野；秋季草木摇落；冬季白雪皑皑。夏季可以在草原上搭起帐篷，消夏避暑；秋季可以在这里纵情驰骋，过一把骑马的瘾。
每年的七、八月间，是草原上最美丽的时节，每到这时，草原上的十多处度假村就热闹起来，篝火晚会、民族歌舞、赛马、射击、射箭、滑翔机等娱乐项目应有尽有，更有湖中快艇、垂钓等水上项目。住在风味十足的蒙古包中，你可以品尝到烤全羊、手扒肉、奶茶、奶豆腐、莜面等风味食品，草原上闪电湖中鱼类品种繁多，可以一饱口福。
交通：这里距离城市虽不远，但交通线路并不多，一般更适合自驾车出游。也可以选择公交车，从北京出发的话，可以到东直门、木樨园乘长途车先到丰宁县（票价30元上下），然后转乘中巴车到草原。
餐宿：在坝上当然要尝一下这里的风味——烤全羊，一般是每斤10元。在度假村中有各种档次的下榻之所，一般小木屋是200元/人，大蒙古包每人40元左右，小蒙古包每人70元左右，除此以外，还可以到当地的农牧民家借宿。
门票：骑马26元/小时
