    　　计算机辅助标引系统，又称保持原意索引法。英国伦敦分类法研究小组成员D.W.奥斯汀于1969～1970年研制成PRECIS－Ⅰ，1974年研制成PRECIS－Ⅱ，同年出版《PRECIS手册》(1984年修订再版)。1974年 PRECIS 被《英国国家书目》采用。它已被一些国家的文献情报机构用于编制检索刊物的主题索引、图书馆主题目录及图书馆分类目录主题索引等。汉语保留上下文索引系统也已研制成功。
　　
　　PRECIS是一个人机合作的标引系统。标引员先编出描述文献主题的短语,输入计算机。由计算机自动制成若干条索引款目并完成排序、编配参照和打印输出。PRECIS的款目一般包括领词、限定词、展示词和文献地址(出处)4 部分，分列两行，其格式如下：
　　
　　PRECIS采用换轨轮排法，将表示文献内容的每个主题词(假设有A、B、C、D4个主题词) 轮番排列在领词位置作为标目，其他主题词均作相应调整，这样可以产生出4 条索引款目，如下图：

　　PRECIS采用具有句法结构的叙词语言，并依据职能符号表进行主题分析，因此索引款目能较确切地表达文献主题，而且接近自然语言，可读性强。它把人工标引技术与计算机工作能力融为一体，编制速度快，费用低。PRECIS已成功地运用于英语、德语、法语、丹麦语、波兰语、泰米尔语和汉语等语言，并能实现不同语种索引款目之间的自动转译。奥斯汀因研制PRECIS曾先后荣获国际文献联合会颁发的阮冈纳赞奖和美国图书馆协会颁发的玛格丽特·曼奖。
