液体介质在服装内流动并在飞行员体表造成适宜温度的个体防护装备，又称液体调节服。液冷服常用的冷却介质是乙二醇水溶液。它在体表循环的降温效率高。液冷服可以制成衣裤一体的形式，也可制成背心式。服装由衣面和冷却管路系统组成。衣面多用针织物制做，管路一般用内径为1.5～3.6毫米的聚氯乙烯软管组成。通过小型电动泵使冷却介质在循环回路中流动。冷却介质流经体表管路后温度升高，然后通过蒸发制冷装置降温，这样往复循环构成制冷回路。冷却介质的温度可以由飞行员在15～45
°C范围内控制。因此液冷服除了可以用于在热环境中降温外，也可以用在冷环境中保温。
