By comparing some recently reported new near room temperature magnetic refrigerants, such as Gd-Si-Ge alloys and La-Fe-Si alloys, with metal Gd, the authors think that it is unreasonable to judge a magnetic material as a good magnetic refrigerant depending only on the magnitude of its magnetic entropy change.
