1940年冬,东北抗日联军第12支队根据第3路军总指挥部关于积极进行反日伪军"讨伐"的指示，决定联合当地义勇军艾青山部,以肇源县城内抗日组织为内应,奇袭该城。肇源县城是吉林、黑龙江两省交界处的重镇，城内守军有日伪军和伪警察共200余人。11月8日，日军召开肇源、肇州、肇东地区"剿匪"胜利庆祝大会，宣称：已"全歼"抗联部队，三肇地区"王道乐土可望实现"。抗联第12支队支队长徐泽民率180余人,于当夜11时到达县城外围，在城内抗日组织接应下，从东门和南门袭入。经过激烈战斗，迅速攻占了县公署、日军营房、警察署和法院。共歼灭日军14人,解除116名伪军警武装，缴获轻机枪5挺，迫击炮3门，长短枪300余支，子弹2万余发，马70余匹。翌日7时,在城内十字街召开群众大会，宣传抗日救国,当即有200多名青年参加抗联。尔后满载缴获的枪弹和其他军用物资，从北门撤出县城。
