货币互换在未来某一确定时间，互换双方按照约定的汇率水平，将一种货币兑换成另一种货币的合同。货币互换包括外汇市场的货币调期(即在即期市场买入或卖出A币兑B币，在远期反向卖出或买入A币兑B币)和在资本市场采用的货币互换。货币互换产生与发展的原因:①中央银行规定，银行须以定期负债而非活期存款对其浮动利率资产进行融资。②交易双方希望通过彼此在国际市场筹资的相对优势来减少成本，增加收益。③相比之下，通过采用货币互换可以降低资金筹集成本。资本市场的货币互换通常是将利息支付与一系列外汇交易联系起来，通常出现于以两种货币利率互换为背景，如一家德国公司欲将马克负债转为美元负债，则需通过货币互换固定汇率风险，达到筹资目的。同时货币互换是对外汇市场中的短期调期的一种补充，可以提供中、长期远期交易方式。近年来欧洲债券市场中，对货币互换的使用愈发频繁，使双方以较低水平将手中货币投资于以另一种货币计价的债券，并保证避免遭受汇率风险带来的损失。
