Up to now the researches on the deformation of the discontinuous interface of rock mass can be classified into two groups:one is the finite element method combined with the modelling of the discontinuous interface,the other is the segmentation of the rock texture.

古登堡不连续面（简称古登堡面，gutenberg discontinuity）。该不连续面是1914年由美国地球物理学家古登堡首先发现的，它位于地下2885km的深处。在此不连续面上下，纵波速度由13.64km/s突然降低为7.98km/s，横波速度由7.23km/s向下突然消失。并且在该不连续面上地震波出现极明显的反射、折射现象。古登堡面以上到莫霍面之间的地球部分称为地幔（mantle）；古登堡面以下到地心之间的地球部分称为地核（core）。
