城市燃气输配系统中自动调节并稳定管网中压力的设施。燃气调压站按进出口管道压力可分为高中压调压站、高低压调压站、中低压调压站等；按服务对象又分为供应一定范围的区域调压站和为单独建筑物或工业企业服务的用户调压站。燃气调压站内除燃气调压器、管道及其附件外，还设有过滤器、测量仪表、控制装置和安全装置等。过滤器用以清除燃气中的固体悬浮物，保证站内设备的正常工作。站内装有测量燃气温度、压力的仪表。根据需要，有的站内还设燃气计量装置，按照给定条件调节燃气出口压力的装置以及遥测、遥控装置等。保证调压站出口压力不超过规定值的安全防护措施，通常是设置安全放散阀和关闭式安全阀，或将两个调压器串联或并联等，常常是几种方法结合起来使用。
进、出站燃气管道总阀门设于站外一定的距离。主调压器的出口控制压力为出站燃气管道的供气压力，辅助调压器的出口控制压力略低于主调压器的出口控制压力。在正常情况下燃气由主调压器供应。当主调压器失灵，关闭式安全阀动作时，由辅助调压器保证供气。安全放散阀的控制压力要低于管网允许的最高压力。
燃气调压站可以设置在露天、地上的单独构筑物、地下小室、建筑物的一个房间或地下室内，也可以设置在屋顶平台上，对此各国有不同的规定。燃气调压站内的布局应考虑安装、操作和维修工作的方便，调压站建筑应满足防火、防爆要求，要有良好的通风等。
