瑞典突厥语言学家。1907年出生于瑞典北部的维肯。青年时期曾在中国新疆及中亚各地进行语言调查，搜集了关于维吾尔语、乌兹别克语的大量资料。1933年发表博士学位论文《东土耳其语(即维吾尔语)语音学研究》，随即在隆德大学任突厥语副教授。1940～1973年曾从事外交工作，但没有中断过突厥学的研究。1968年起为斯德哥尔摩皇家文学历史古文物科学院成员。1970年成为英国皇家亚洲学会名誉会员。雅林主要研究现代维吾尔语，同时还研究乌兹别克语。代表作有《来自南疆的东土耳其语研究资料、故事、诗歌、谚语、谜语、民族学及历史资料的译文和注释》(1946～1951)、《中亚民间故事》(1973)、《东土耳其语-英语方言学词典》 (1964)、《维吾尔 -德语古文献词典》(1967)、《克利奇地方的乌兹别克方言材料及词汇表》(1937)、《阿富汗土耳其斯坦的乌兹别克语材料及词汇表》(1938)。此外,在地名学方面他也发表过一些论著，如《中亚突厥地名记述》(1961)， 与他人合作为 S.赫定的《中亚地图集》编了《地名索引》(1967)，其中有雅林关于突厥语地名的研究。1978年应邀访问中国，1980年发表了《喀什的文学资料，译文、注释及词汇》。
