性质:又称镍/镉蓄电池。一种碱性蓄电池,以羟基氧化镍为正极活性物质,活性金属镉为负极活性物质,含有或不含少量氢氧化锂的氢氧化钾溶液为电解质。是瑞典人W. Jungner于20世纪初研制成功的。按结构变化分三个发展阶段:(1)20世纪50年代前,电极结构为极板盒式(袋式);(2)50~60年代初电极为烧结式;(3)60年代以后为密封式蓄电池。运行时的电化学反应: 正极      NiOOH+H2O+e-→Ni(OH)2+OH-  负极      Cd+2OH--2e-→Cd(OH)2电池反应  2NiOOH+Cd+2H2O→2Ni(OH)2+Cd(OH)2电池循环寿命长,可达2000~4000次,结构坚固,低温性能和大电流放电性能好,可以制成免维护蓄电池。烧结式电池比功率可达470~800W/kg,最大放电电流可达40C放电率,单体电池以0.2C放电率放电时工作电压约1.2V。缺点是充电效率和能量效率较差,烧结式电池有记忆效应,价格昂贵。广泛应用于引擎起动,动力牵引,照明和空间技术能源系统。
