中国生产罐头食品较早的企业之一。初创于1930年7月。1933年7月由石永锡和冯义祥等13人合股投资，正式成立梅林罐头食品股份有限公司，以"金盾"为商标，生产番茄沙司、辣酱油、果酱以及中国传统食品油焖笋、红烧扣肉和红烧鸡等罐头，产品驰名中外。1951年中国政府颁发了梅林牌注册商标证书。1960年，为了发展生产、增加出口，先后有上海益民食品二厂、伟大罐头食品厂、开林罐头食品厂、兴泰制罐厂、科学印铁制罐厂等15个企业并入公司，成为中国规模较大、功能较全的罐头企业。1960年，公司易名为梅林罐头食品厂。产品包括肉、禽、水产、蔬菜(食用菌)、果类、果汁果酱及其他共七大类100余个品种,产品远销近百个国家和地区。80年代以来，该厂添置了具有80年代先进水平的空罐电阻焊接生产线和底盖自动生产线的全套设备，以及午餐肉生产线、低温火腿生产线和杀菌设备，提高了生产能力和产品质量。1987年12月成立了上海梅林食品(集团)公司，梅林罐头食品厂是（集团）公司的主体成员单位之一。
