When translating Chinese novels into English,assimilation can reduce the barrier in cross-cultural communication;while alienation can facilitate the target readers to learn about the style of source text as well as exotic culture.

at present,translation scholars argued about the problem of assimilation and alienation continuously.

Based on such a problem,this paper puts forward two strategies: assimilation and alienation.
