      铁磁性物质的颗粒小于临界尺寸时,外场产生的磁取向力不足以抵抗热骚动的干扰,其磁化性质与顺磁体(见顺磁性)相似,称作超顺磁性。临界尺寸与温度有关,例如球状铁粒在室温的临界半径为12.5纳米,而在4.2K时半径为2.2纳米还是铁磁性的。
  
  超顺磁体的磁化曲线与铁磁体不同,没有磁滞现象。当去掉外磁场后,剩磁很快消失。如以H/T(H是磁场强度,T是绝对温度)为坐标横轴,不同温度的磁化曲线合而为一,可用顺磁体的磁化公式(朗之万函数或布里渊函数)表示。外加磁场时,在普通顺磁体中,单个原子或分子的磁矩独立地沿磁场取向;而超顺磁体以包含大于105个原子的均匀磁化的单畴作为整体协同取向,所以磁化率较一般顺磁体大很多。
