性质:利用磁热效应达到制冷目的的材料。铁磁性或亚铁磁性材料及磁有序材料在磁场作用下,磁性物质的磁矩将会沿磁场方向排列整齐,磁熵减小,而使磁性体的热量释放出来。若除去磁场,磁矩又将混乱排列,磁熵增大,将吸收周围环境的热量,使环境温度下降,如采用一种合适的循环,就可以降低磁性体所处的环境温度。现已制成适用于不同温区工作的一些磁制冷材料。例如,RAl2型复合材料(R为重稀土元素),(Ho0.5Dy0.5)A12.15等合金材料适用于20~77K温区;钆镓石榴石铁氧体单晶(GGG),镝铝石榴石铁氧体单晶(DAG)适用于20K以下的温区;Mn3A1C,Fe-Zr非晶等材料的居里温度在室温附近,可作为室温磁制冷工质,但磁熵仅为金属钆的一半,制冷效率不高。室温制冷工质尚处于探索阶段。磁制冷与气体制冷比较,具有效率高,制冷设备体积小、重量轻、振动和噪声小,不需要装设压缩机。磁制冷是很好的制冷方式。
