南岳镇距乐清市区14公里，东临乐清湾，是一个多水田、多滩涂的乡镇。区域面积20.27平方公里，总人口24185人。
南岳的经济以渔业、农业为主，素有“鱼米之乡”的美称。拥有滩涂8000余亩，具有发展渔业得天独厚的条件。本镇远洋捕捞业历史悠久，盛产黄鱼、鳗鱼、墨鱼、弹涂鱼和梭子蟹、蝤蠓、花蛤等。现有2个渔业队从事远洋捕捞，拥有渔轮17艘，99年捕捞总量达5080吨。水产养殖以养殖花蛤、甲鱼、河鳗等名贵水产品为主，99年总产量达3022.4吨，产值约为5790万元。
南岳的工业主要是建立在渔业上的水产品加工业，如各种冷库、水产品加工厂。近年来，汽配、家具、塑料、五金电器、服装制造业等，已取得一定成绩。现有乡镇企业42家，1999年工业生产总值3596万元。
南岳有丰富的旅游资源，境内有环境优美的小崧石佛、法华寺、桃花岛。
