形态特征 乔木状竹种，地下茎单轴散生。秆挺直，高8～22米，径4～14厘米，秆绿色，无毛，老竹在节下有白粉环；节间在分枝一侧有纵沟；新枝微被白粉。节处呈两环，隆起。叶二至五枚生于小枝顶端，长椭圆状披针形，夏秋季翠绿色，冬季转黄色。笋期5月。常见的栽培变种有：碧玉间黄金竹。
繁殖培育 移植母株或播种繁殖培育实生苗
园林用途 刚竹秆高挺秀，枝叶青翠，是长江下游各省区重要的观赏和用材竹种之一。可配植于建筑前后、山坡、水池边、草坪一角，宜在居民新村、风景区种植绿化美化。宜筑台种植，旁可植假山石衬托，或配植松、梅，形成“岁寒三友”之景。
产地分布 分布于长江流域，河南、山东、河北、、山西有栽培。
