豆科扁蓄豆属的一个种，学名Pocockia ruthenia (L.)Boiss.。多年生草本。又名花苜蓿、野苜蓿。牧草作物，典型草原和沙性植被的伴生种，多生于沙地、丘陵地、河岸沙质地等种。中国东北各省，内蒙古、山西、陕西、四川等省(自治区)均有分布；
根发达；茎常四棱形，疏生短毛，长20-60cm，斜生或平卧，多分枝；羽状三出复叶，小叶圆形或倒卵形，总状花序，腋生，着花4-10朵，苹果扁平，矩圆形，种子椭圆形，淡黄色，千粒重2g左右。抗旱性和抗寒性均较强。旱生植物。种子硬实率高达70%左右，种子小宜浅播，播深1-2cm，每公顷播量7.5-12kg；可在雨季初期播种，行距20-40cm。
扁蓄豆草质柔软，营养价值高。开花期风干草，含水分10.1%，干物质含粗蛋白质17.35%，粗脂肪4.62%，无氮浸出物22.4.1%，粗纤维38.73%，灰分6.88%。适口性好，各种家畜均喜食。
