   鲑鲈目鲑鲈科鲑鲈属的一种。体具背脂鳍,上颌主要由前上颌骨形成,腹鳍腹位,或亚腹位;背鳍前部具1~2鳍棘9~12鳍条;臀鳍具1~2鳍棘6~7鳍条;胸鳍位低;鳃膜条骨6,排列似鲈形目,尾下骨2块。肛门位正常,于臀鳍之前,侧线完整。根据脂背鳍及上颌的结构等特征,被认为是鲑形目与鲈形目之间的过渡类群。分布于美国及加拿大江河流域。鲑鲈鱼属另一种为沙鲑鲈鱼,分布与上种相似。
