上甘山林场位于上高县城的东南面，与塔下乡犬牙交错，东接新界埠乡和高安田南乡，南连蒙山乡、南港镇，西界翰堂镇、芦洲乡，北邻锦江镇。上新公路、铁路贯穿境内，锦江侧流而过，水陆交通方便。场部距县城5公里，紧依上新公路，是工业集聚区和居民聚居区。林场面积82.4平方公里，现在人口2344人，职工1321人，辖区5个分场、1个林科所、1个居委会、1个木材经营部、1所小学。2003年10月撤乡并村，划出5个行政村，保留国营上甘山林场。
