因女性比男性为2∶1，支持伴X染色体显性遗性，为单一的突变基因引起。表现：身材矮小，最后身高137～152cm，偶尔正常，中等胖。圆脸，低鼻梁。出牙推迟，发育不全和/或■质发育不全。掌骨及骨短，尤其是第4及5，拇指末节短，圆锥形骨骺。皮下组织及基底神经节有钙化区。变化不定的低钙血症及高磷酸盐血症。青春期及妊娠期谨慎地应用维生素D治疗是需要的。智力不全，智商20～99。平均约60，偶尔有正常者。
