豆科 (Leguminosae)野豌豆属一年生或越年生草本。又名救荒野豌豆、大巢菜等。优良的、饲草和粮食兼用作物。原产欧洲地中海沿岸和亚洲西部地区,世界各地都有种植。中国野生种分布很广。栽培种在20世纪40年代从美国引入中国西北地区,60年代后普遍推广。箭

鲜草含水80%左右, 氮0.4~0.69%,磷酸0.09~0.25%,氧化钾0.46~0.53%;青干草含粗蛋白26.8%,粗脂肪2.9%, 粗纤维25.6%,无氮浸出物31.2%。是营养价值高、茎枝柔嫩、叶量多、适口性好的饲草。在中国南方水田可作稻田冬绿肥或果园、丘陵旱地的填闲绿肥;在北方可与中耕作物间套种植。种子是家畜的精饲料,也可制淀粉,作加工粉丝的原料。但因种子含有生物碱和氰苷有毒物质,故饲用或食用时必须经过浸泡、磨碎、蒸煮等处理。
