元宝山区第一中学(原平庄中学)，始建于1956年，2000年平庄中学正式更名为元宝山区第一中学。 2003年，学校被北京大学附属中学确定为“北大附中远程教育示范校”，2004年初进入北大附中远程教育“精品示范校”行列。
学校占地面积近十万平方米，建筑面积四万平方米，现有教学班61个，在校学生4100多人，有教职工233人，其中中学特级教师1人，高级教师34人，市级以上教学能手、学科带头人、骨干教师40人，专任教师学历合格率达95%以上。学校开通了校园局域网，为每个教室配备了大屏幕液晶投影、实物投影，为每位教师配备了笔记本电脑，实现了多媒体进课堂，教师电子备课的目标，学校的现代化教学手段达到了赤峰市领先，自治区一流水平。

学校每年都为高等院校输送大批的优秀人才，近几年万人口升学率、重点大学升学率、本科大学升学率一直名列全市前茅。2004年考入清华1人，北大1人，聂晓琳同学以297分获自治区理综单科状元；2005年考入清华2人，北大1人，全校上重点线205人，本科以上760余人，谢荣华同学以263分荣获自治区文综单科状元。
