At water temperature of 24 ℃ ,oxygen consumption rate and suffocation point of Lepomis macrochirus fry and fingerling were tested.

小型个体，体长约35毫米，体宽为25毫米。体近长圆形，背部凸起，表面具有不规则的乳状突起。头部前端扩展形成扁状头幕，前缘具小锯齿，具触角2对。鳃轴两侧各具29-30个密梳状鳃叶、足较大，长卵形，超出外套膜边缘。前端圆，后端稍尖、后瑞腹面具三角形的足缘。身体背面蓝黄色，带有紫色冈纹。腹面为深紫褐色。颚片发达，齿舌没有中央齿，侧齿数日为软体动物中最多者。
生活于浅海沙底。运动缓慢，常以软体动物为食。春、夏季为其繁殖期，卵群为白色螺旋带状。
肉食性，喜食小型软体动物、为贝类养殖业的敌害。
