    禾本科黍属多年生草本。又称坚尼草、天竺草。热带优良牧草,原产非洲。 茎直立丛生,株高约1米。茎与叶鞘均有蜡粉。圆锥花序直立散开,小穗成熟后即散落。喜湿热气候,宜于年均温20.6℃、最低月均温9.4℃以上的地区种植。耐干旱、 耐酸瘦土壤,也耐荫。 经常刈割的宜行分株种植,行距 60~100厘米。作放牧地则宜用种子播种。鲜草干物质含粗蛋白质 5.8%~10.1%,适口性好,可刈割作青饲料和制干草,或供放牧。1908年中国台湾引种,今广东、广西等地栽培。
