中国古代大别山与桐柏山之间重要隘口。位于今河南省信阳市南35公里，河南、湖北两省交界处。南锁鄂州，北屏中原，扼控南北交通咽喉。武胜关古称大隧隘道(一说直辕隘道)。南朝齐称武阳关。唐称礼山关，后复称武阳关。清始称武胜关。与东之九里关，西之平靖关，合称义阳（今信阳）三关。武胜关地处险阨，附近山峦交错，群峰环结，关城以山为障，凿山成隘，古以"车不能方轨，马不能并骑"形容其险。历来为南北抗衡之地，行师必由之道。南北朝时期，梁、魏为取得关隘要道的控制权，曾在三关相持，反复争夺数十年。南宋开庆元年(1259)，忽必烈率军渡淮河，攻大胜关，宋军凭关据守，攻不得克，后因戍兵弃关南逃，方越关南下直取鄂州（今湖北武昌），逼南宋求和，结"鄂州之盟"。今有京广铁路经此。
