清乾隆时大臣。字广廷，号云岩。章佳氏。满洲正蓝旗人,后以新疆战功抬入正白旗。大学士阿克敦子。乾隆三年(1738)举人。初以父荫授大理寺丞，累迁至吏部员外郎、军机章京。十三年，从兵部尚书班第参金川军事，后擢至内阁学士。二十年，值用兵准噶尔部，命赴乌里雅苏台督台站，参与平定准、回兵事。回疆平，先驻阿克苏，旋移驻伊犁。上言驻兵、屯田诸策，皆允行，命经理之。又疏定约束章程，建绥定、安远二城。授予骑都尉世职。二十八年，召还京，授军机大臣、正红旗满洲都统、工部尚书，加太子太保。三十年，赴乌什协助将军明瑞镇压维族起义。三十二年，授伊犁将军。三十六年,派赴金川军前,后授定西将军主持金川军务。四十一年，金川平，以功封一等诚谋英勇公，授吏部尚书、协办大学士，班师叙功列第一。次年，拜武英殿大学士。此后十数年，多次出办河工及江浙海塘工程、湖北荆州堤工。又统师镇压青海循化撒拉族苏四十三与甘肃通渭石峰堡回族田五领导的两次起义（见苏四十三、田五起义）,颇得清廷器重。出则付以重任,入则综理部务。嘉庆二年(1797)八月卒。
