It also preliminarily analyzes the present rock color painting teaching situation in Sino-Japanese colleges and universities from the perspective of cultural understanding and through making investigations on the rock color painting teaching in colleges and universities of Chinese mainland,Taiwan and Japan.

English cultural teaching concludes cultural knowledge level and cultural understanding.

And with an analysis of the special cultural flavor in the 21st Century College English, two categories of approaches to culture teaching, namely, culture knowledge approach and culture understanding approach, are introduced to meet the new requirement for College English.

Therefore, the author proposes that cross-cultural understanding should be done, idioms be transformed flexibly in the application and conception be changed to eliminate the group misunderstanding so that better cross-cultural communication can be made.

According to that,the study and use of Chinese and English idiom should first permeate through the surface layer to get the intercultural understanding,and secondly should convert flexibly,to eliminate the cultural misunderstanding of individuals,thirdly should change the concept to eliminate the cultural misunderstanding of colony,conse.

Starting from language learners different characteristi cs at their different learning stages, this article proposes that the teaching of culture in FLT shou ld be conducted in two stages, namely, the elementary stage to cultivate intercultural awareness and the advanced stage to enhance intercultural understanding.
