浙江民营经济的一个重要特点就是区域性产业集中，即一乡一品，一县一品，一市一品。温州的打火机、皮鞋、低压电器等，台州的摩托，绍兴的轻纺，宁波的服装%26#8230;%26#8230;早已经走出中国享誉全球。在温州模式泛化的浙江，%26#8220;村村点火，户户冒烟%26#8221;，生产各种商品的小企业无所不在而且各具特色。所以有人称浙江的民营经济是%26#8220;老百姓经济%26#8221;，它首先是老百姓干出来的。经济学专家则称之为块状经济。
在浙江很多地方已经形成了许多以资源为依托，以产品为纽带，以骨干企业为龙头的块状经济。如永康是闻名全国的%26#8220;五金城%26#8221;。%26#8220;领带之乡%26#8221;嵊州，年产领带２．８亿条，占全球领带的三分之一。海宁年产皮衣１６００万件，占全国产量的四分之一。诸暨市大唐镇，有８０００多家家庭企业生产袜子，年产袜子４８亿双，产值９０亿元，成为全球最大的袜业基地。
以宁波为例。宁波共有块状经济145块，其中产值超亿元的有90多个，超5亿元的有10多个。如培育了雅戈尔、罗蒙、布利杰、培罗成等知名服装品牌的宁波服装块状经济，现有的1800多家企业就分布在鄞州石碶)镇到奉化桥头镇一线的五六个乡镇间；慈溪胜山镇从事服装加工的农户有1万多家，占当地总户数的90％；象山的爵溪街道只有1万多人口，却集聚了400多家针织服装生产企业。另外，宁海西店镇的小五金、城关镇的文具、慈溪周巷镇的食品等，也都是以镇为单位、特色产业集聚的块状经济。
近年来，浙江省因势利导，加大对这些各具特色的块状经济的扶持与管理，目前全省已有８６个特色园区和４６个工业园区。这种中小企业的集群化发展，使区域经济的实力显著增强，从而进一步垒高了浙江经济总量。
