欧洲的阿尔卑斯以及其它一些年青的巨大造山带和褶皱山系。早第三纪和晚第三纪由于阿尔卑斯运动(中国称喜马拉雅运动),使沿欧洲南部中生代的古地中海发生了强烈褶皱,形成横贯东西的阿尔卑斯-喜马拉雅山脉(从西班牙至亚洲南部)。严格地说,此词只限于造山带的北翼,由徐士(E.Suess)创名。同义词有“地中海带”、“阿尔卑斯-喜马拉雅带”。板块构造学说认为,这个造山带属碰撞型山链。(共213字)
