动植物标本馆内的第一层植物馆珍藏植物2000多种，12000多号，如珙桐、银杏，共同显示了神农架植物所特有的古老性，丰富性和复杂性三大特点，共同构成了一座别致的物种基因库，珙桐，香果，银杏，连香，篦子杉等60余种孓遗物种，素有活化石之称。还有“头顶一颗珠，文王一枝笔，江边一碗水，七叶一枝花”等珍稀药材，使人大开眼界。
第二层动物馆，按鸟类、兽类、鱼类、昆虫类陈列，有动物标本400多种，1000多号。其中最惹人注目的是国家重点保护的白化动物和金丝猴标本，标本馆素有“生物圣殿”之称，是神农架珍稀动植物的缩影。
