清河镇位于四川省东部，巍巍巴山南麓，华莹山北端，东柳河下游，距大竹县城22公里。自古以来，清河人杰地灵，资源富集，文化灿烂。这里是爱国将领范绍增、原国家教委副主任王明达的故乡。
清河老街“将军街”建筑群历史悠久，明末清初形成规模，1920年由开国士绅范先级等集资拓宽街道、修葺街面，1931年抗日和国民党起义名将范绍增在上海结合希腊建筑风格，制成图纸带回出资改造兴建而成。整条街格调统一，风貌独特，排列整齐，规模宏伟，全长385米，占地3.3万平方米，建筑面积2.9万平方米。它独具特色，是西南地区唯一至今保存完好的古建筑群体，具有极高的艺术价值、历史价值和旅游价值。1990年9月、2001年5月、2002年12月先后被县、市、省批准为文物保护单位和古建筑保护群体，并纳入全市旅游开发重点，成为达州市委、市政府规划的全市四条骨干旅游环线中的核心景点之一。
清河旅游资源丰富，除“将军街”外，文革前，清河有关庙、文庙、禹王庙、姚家庵九殿、石子岭白塔、五拱桥石塔等景观。离清河镇5公里的中峰岛，孤风屹立，绿树成荫，古柏参天，白鹤成群，寺宇幽静，四面环水，有“海螺碧珍龙、蓬莱小岛峙中峰”、“两水夹明镜、双桥落彩虹”之美称，其“幽、静、美”让人流连忘返，是良好的休闲游玩去处。清河镇境内还有大竹县最高海拔1196米的万里坪，山峦起伏，群峰傲立，万亩“绿海”，蔚为壮观。
