标准地点位于山西省隰县午城镇的昕水河支流柳树沟内砾石层之上，未见其直接和三趾马红土层接触。岩石颜色较红,含有红棕色埋藏土壤层。在午城黄土中,未见清楚层理，所含砂与砾石的数量也较少，推测形成时，无较强流水活动。暂时性流水作用，使黄土堆积初期山坡上的基岩受到冲刷，风化物混于黄土之中，故于其底部黄土中，偶夹有小石粒。午城黄土中发现有松、禾本科等花粉,说明当时植被具有森林草原性质,森林习性的哺乳类动物也较多。自下而上，干旱气候条件下的蒿属、藜属和禾本科等花粉数量增多，说明当时气候向干旱方向发展。在午城黄土中可见中国长鼻三趾马化石。长鼻三趾马?黾谀嗪油宀阒校式绯腔仆恋氖贝ㄔ谠绺率馈?
