Dongwu movement is an important crustal movement activity happenning during the Permian, but arguments focus on its location, character and occurring time.

Dongwu movement is an important geological event of the Permian in South China, however, there are still lots of disputes and controversy on the timing, dimension and nature of the Dongwu movement.

The "South and North Type" of the Permian Series in Hunan Province was originated by the main episode of the Dongwu Movement at the later stage of Early Permian and is an event of universal significance in South China In Hunan province,Dangchong Formation closely matches the lower and middle parts of Maokou Formation while Longtan Formation matches well the upper part of Maokou Formation.

The investigation indicates that the complex structural patterns within the Liaohe intracontinental rift basin were dominated by the extensional movement and simultaneously deformed by the late down tilting movement just in Mesozoic era.

Based on the analysis of tectonic deformation,extensional unconformity,sedimentary facies and paleogeographical rebuilding of southern Tibet,it is recognized that the extensional movement consists of active extension of Hercynian,Indo Chinese and Early Yanshan epochs,and passive extension of the Himalayan epoch.

During the Mesozoic and Cenozoic,in which horizontal extensional movements and vertical differential elevation and subsidence movements played the principal parts in the tectonic movements and in the formation and evolution of North Yellow Sea Basin.
