太平岩地处沙头镇渔田村，是楠溪江景区的天然门户，景区入口处有“渐入佳境”遒劲大字，乃已故书法泰斗沙孟海先生题写。 太平岩一江绝壁，碧树成荫，奇峰林立，怪石峥嵘，造型别致的胡公殿掩映在浓荫密处，于云雾缭绕中若隐若现，令人心驰神往。
石砌台阶前是太平岩山门，处拔地而起凌空矗立的双笋峰之间。周围岚气缥缈，使人有飘飘然踏赴仙境瑶林之感。“恩赐春夏秋冬客，泽及东西南北人”，山门上的这副楹联，使人感到亲切。山门前是陡急的台阶，台阶中央有“猪头岩”巨石一块，过猪头岩，是胡公殿。
胡公殿也叫渔田寮，始建于明朝天启年间(1621-1627年)，现存者为清光绪十八年(1894年)重新修建。大殿建筑古朴雅致，后有巨崖峭壁为其依托，清纯碧秀的楠溪江水从前面静静流过，乔木竹影间寺宇的翘角飞檐隐现，如仙居，如世外桃源。
