边疆地理
有关国家边缘地带地理研究的统称。边疆通常是指毗邻国界的连续地域，具有邻接国家、国界线和边疆地区的自然、历史、经济及社会诸方面的地理特征。它是国际建设、保卫国家主权和领土完整，以及进行边境贸易的重要地区。清咸丰八年(1858)，何秋涛撰《北徼汇编》，对中国北部和西北边疆至中亚、东欧等地的历史沿革、山川形势等都有详细记述。咸丰皇帝垂览其书，赐名“朔方备乘”。光绪十年(1884)，曹廷杰奉命督办边防，先后赴伯力(今俄罗斯哈巴罗夫斯克)一带探边情，撰写《东北边防辑要》，阐明黑龙江北、乌苏里江东广大地区历为中国领土，记述有山川险要、防守利害。1991年，中国地理学者钮仲勋等编著《中国边疆地理》，记述我国陆、海边疆各地历史、自然、人文地理的历史现状及开发前景等。
