In the Warring States Period,however,militarism was advocated,the idea of might was outside the civility range,and became the antithesis to literary ethos.

Thus there emerged a unique spirit of "militarism" and a tide of education of military citizenship in China.

The result shows that through Pre-qin period,martialism was more or less existent,which was further promoted both by official schools and private schools.

Studying the martial spirit,it had much signification for further understanding the ideas and culture in Western Han dynasty and unscrambling the profound meanings of the martialism in the relatively peaceful and steady period.

From the perspectives of ethical history,history of athletics,theory of athletics and archaeology and through literature analysis,background analysis and comprehensive analysis,this paper probes into the contributing factors in the martial spirit,the athletic cultural characteristics and their manifestation of Chu people in the pre-Qin era.
