重要门户。1888年和1904年英军两次入侵西藏，均从此突人。(沙劲松)Yadong亚东(Y adong)中国西藏自治区南部边防要地，亦名下司马镇。位于江孜县城西南工72.5千米，东邻不丹，西接锡金，南近印度和孟加拉国。面积6平方千米，人口1 209(1993)。原为山谷小村，明朝开始逐渐形成为西藏对外贸易集镇。1893年英国强迫清政府签订《中英会议藏印续约》，开放亚东(今下亚东仁青岗)为商埠。西藏和平解放后，中国人民解放军于1 952年7月进驻于此。初属帕里宗，归西藏地方政府亚东商务总管统辖。1960年设亚东县后，为县政府所在地。地处喜马拉雅山南麓群山之中，卓木麻曲狭窄河谷地带，地势北高南低，海拔2 950米。周围LIJ势陡峭，比高在1 000米以上。东北47千米处的帕里镇，海拔4 000多米。南北走向的卓木麻曲水流湍急，难以徒涉、舟渡。属高原温带季风气候，年平均降水量700毫米。夏季多大雾，山洪、泥石流时有发生。森林茂密，通行不便。亚东是中国与印度等南亚诸国的交通要冲之一，有公路北通拉萨，南经乃堆拉和则里拉山口可达锡金甘托克和印度噶伦堡。位于中锡边界的乃堆拉和则里拉l_LI口，海拔4 000多米，峰峦夹峙，居高临下，是出人边境的燃瘾 乃堆拉山口张太恒摄
